The provincial government announced that the holiday would apply to all state-run and private offices, including hospitals’ outpatient clinics, the Civil Secretariat, and other administrative departments.
Eid Milad-un-Nabi is celebrated annually to honour the birth of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH). It is considered a spiritual occasion when Muslims reflect on his teachings, attend religious gatherings, and engage in charitable work. Streets and mosques are often decorated, while religious processions are held in cities across the province.
Authorities have said arrangements are being made to ensure peaceful and safe celebrations. Additional security will likely be deployed in Lahore, Rawalpindi, Multan, and other major cities.
The provincial government’s decision to declare a public holiday for Eid Milad-un-Nabi is a testament to the importance of the event in Punjab. It allows citizens to participate fully in the celebrations and religious observances without work or school commitments. This move not only facilitates the spiritual and cultural aspects of the day but also underscores the government’s commitment to religious harmony and respect for all faiths.
The widespread nature of the holiday across both public and private sectors ensures that the entire community can come together to honour the occasion in a spirit of shared devotion and communal celebration.
