Project Overview: The proposed stadium is slated for construction near Sector D-12, nestled in the foothills of the Margalla Hills. Envisioned as the largest cricket venue in Pakistan, the stadium is expected to boast a seating capacity exceeding 50,000. The CDA plans to allocate 280 kanals of land for this purpose on a 99-year lease agreement.

Collaboration with PCB: In collaboration with the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), the CDA has outlined a plan where the PCB will oversee the stadium’s construction, aiming for completion within five years. Revenue generated from the facility is proposed to be shared between the PCB and CDA in a 70:30 ratio.

Historical Context: This initiative follows a previous attempt to establish a cricket stadium at Shakarparian, which was halted by the Supreme Court due to the area’s designation as part of the national park. Learning from past challenges, the CDA is now focusing on the D-12 location, which aligns with Islamabad’s master plan and zoning regulations.

Additional Developments: The meeting also addressed other potential projects, including:

  • Margalla Road Extension: Plans to extend Margalla Road up to the motorway to improve connectivity.
  • Traffic Solutions at Faizabad: Strategies to alleviate congestion in the Faizabad area.
  • Safari Park and Recreational Facilities: Proposals for a Safari Park, chairlift, and zip line to enhance recreational offerings in the capital.
  • Commercial Strips along the Expressway: Consideration of developing commercial areas on both sides of the expressway, with an emphasis on maintaining the city’s green spaces and preventing encroachment.

The CDA has been tasked with finalizing designs and initiating these projects promptly to bolster Islamabad’s infrastructure and recreational amenities.
