The head of the National Telecommunication Corporation (NTC), currently serving as Managing Director, is set to be replaced from the position of Chairman by the Service Regulation of 2023. Additionally, he is expected to be appointed as the Chairman of the NTC Management Board, a decision made jointly by the Ministry of IT and the NTC head.

The circumstances surrounding these changes have become contentious, prompting the Ministry to submit a summary to the federal cabinet to remove the Managing Director (Chairman) of the NTC from his position.
Reports suggest that the Ministry had initially withdrawn the Ministry of IT’s portfolio from the federal cabinet due to some objections but the Ministry’s higher officials claim that the matter remains under the cabinet’s purview. According to sources, it is anticipated that the issue will be part of the agenda for the upcoming federal cabinet meeting.
It is noteworthy that, according to the NTC’s Service Regulation of 2008, the head of the organization was referred to as the Chairman. At that time, the Chairman of the NTC Management Board was also the Federal Secretary.
During this period, the Chairman of the organization held the powers of the Board Chairman for one year. However, in 2016, the position of the Chairman of the NTC was changed from a Brigadier (Retired) Waqar Rashid to the Managing Director (MD).
Since then, the MD of the NTC has been referred to as the Chairman, and the current MD, Miraj Gul, has held the position continuously. In the new Service Regulation of 2023, formulated during Miraj Gul’s tenure, it is stated that the notification was issued in June 2023, and the Gazette notification was released in August.
