The Fifth Road Safety Conference, organized by the Youth Parliament in collaboration with the Sports & Youth Affairs Department, Government of Sindh, was held at Marriott Hotel Karachi to address the escalating road safety crisis in the city.

Over-Speeding: A Leading Cause of Accidents: Provincial Minister for Energy, Planning & Development, Syed Nasir Hussain Shah, emphasized that over-speeding remains the primary cause of the rising number of traffic accidents in Karachi. Speaking as the Chief Guest, he stressed the importance of public awareness, strict law enforcement, and youth engagement to combat this deadly trend.
He further announced that the Sindh government has mandated all hospitals to provide immediate medical aid to road accident victims without any delays or harassment. “Those who bring the injured to hospitals must be treated with respect and should not face unnecessary intimidation,” he asserted.
Call for Improved Public Transport & Local Train System: Rizwan Jaffar, Chairman of the Youth Parliament, expressed deep concern over Karachi’s increasing road fatalities and highlighted the urgent need for a local train system and better public transportation to reduce traffic congestion and accidents.
Modern Traffic Management & Enforcement: Additional IG Police Karachi, Javed Alam Odho, underscored the necessity of modern technology, including smart traffic signals, surveillance cameras, and automated penalty systems, to improve urban traffic management.
DIG Traffic Karachi, Peer Muhammad Shah, identified underage driving, license violations, and disregard for traffic laws as major contributors to accidents. He proposed integrating traffic education into school and college curricula to foster responsible driving habits from an early age.
Acknowledging Contributions: The conference concluded with shield distributions to outstanding contributors, followed by a vote of thanks by Mr. Abdul Aleem Lashari, Secretary of the Sports & Youth Affairs Department, Government of Sindh.
