At least 11 popular packaged snack products have been banned from the market after lab tests deemed them unsuitable for human consumption. Food safety is crucial for public health and consumer confidence, prompting the Sindh Food Authority (SFA) and other agencies to ensure that unsafe food is removed from shelves to prevent illnesses, protect vulnerable populations, and reduce healthcare costs.

The Director General of the Sindh Food Authority stated that products like Slanty Vegetable, Snackers Hot Masala, and others failed safety tests conducted by the University of Karachi’s Food Testing Laboratory. As a result, officials ordered the immediate removal of these products, warning that legal action would be taken if the deadline was not met. The SFA also urged other provincial food authorities to conduct similar investigations to ensure public health is safeguarded.
A directive was issued by the SFA for the complete recall of the products under the Safety Standards Act. The company responsible was instructed to promptly remove the affected products from the market to prevent further risks to public health.
The SFA emphasized that it reserves the right to pursue legal actions, including imposing penalties under relevant sections of the law and initiating criminal proceedings under the Pakistan Penal Code for any violations, according to media reports.
