Nestlé Confirms Massive 12-Ton KitKat Heist in Europe: Over 400,000 Bars Stolen, In a bizarre yet significant criminal act, Swiss food giant Nestlé has confirmed the theft of a massive shipment containing over 12 tons of KitKat chocolate bars. The heist, which involved exactly 413,793 units of the brand’s new chocolate range, occurred while the cargo was in transit across Europe.

According to official statements, the truck carrying the popular chocolate-covered wafers departed from a production facility in Central Italy and was destined for Poland. However, the vehicle and its entire load vanished before reaching its destination. Nestlé reported that the shipment included bars from their new Formula 1 (F1) line, which features chocolate bars molded into the shape of race cars.

The timing of the theft is particularly critical as it occurred just days before the Easter holiday, a peak season for chocolate consumption. While Nestlé initially warned of potential shortages, a recent update from the company via social media clarified that overall supply remains unaffected and there are no concerns regarding consumer safety.

“We’ve always encouraged people to ‘have a break’ with KitKat, but it seems thieves have taken the message too literally,” a Nestlé spokesperson remarked, adding that cargo theft is becoming an escalating issue for businesses across the region.

Nestlé has warned that the stolen goods might surface through unofficial sales channels or black markets. To combat this, the company highlighted that every bar carries a unique batch code. Consumers and retailers can scan these codes; if a match is found, the system will provide direct instructions on how to alert Nestlé and local authorities. Investigations are currently ongoing in collaboration with law enforcement and supply chain partners.
