WhatsApp Business Launches Custom Message Folders to Revolutionize Customer Support. Meta has officially begun the global rollout of Custom Message Folders for the WhatsApp Business app. The highly anticipated feature allows business owners, customer support teams, and digital marketers to sort, categorize, and prioritize customer chats using customized, color-coded folder tabs right at the top of their chat list.

As consumer interactions on messaging apps reach record highs, the new update aims to replace WhatsApp’s existing, basic chat filters (“Unread,” “Groups,” “Labels”) with a fully flexible organization system built for high-volume customer management.

Key Features of WhatsApp Business Message Folders

  • Custom Categories: Business users can create up to 10 personalized folders (e.g., “Pending Payments,” “VIP Clients,” “New Leads,” “Orders in Transit”).

  • Automated Routing Rules: Merchants can set automated rules so incoming messages containing specific keywords or coming from tagged contacts route directly into assigned folders.

  • Color-Coded Status Labels: Folders display visual badges showing unread counts and high-priority flags to help teams address urgent customer inquiries first.

  • Multi-Agent Sync: Folders created on the primary smartphone seamlessly sync across linked devices, including WhatsApp Web, Desktop, and multi-agent customer service portals.

Why It Matters for Small Businesses and E-Commerce

For millions of merchants—particularly across fast-growing digital economies like Pakistan, India, and Latin America—WhatsApp serves as the primary storefront, CRM, and payment channel. Managing hundreds of daily customer conversations within a single, unstructured chat stream has long been a key operational bottleneck.

“Organizing customer chats has been one of the most requested features from our merchant community,” Meta stated in its official announcement. “With Message Folders, entrepreneurs can convert leads faster, track orders seamlessly, and reduce response times without needing expensive third-party CRM tools.”

How to Set Up Custom Message Folders

  1. Open the WhatsApp Business app and navigate to Settings.

  2. Select Chat Management and tap Message Folders.

  3. Tap Create New Folder, enter a custom name, and pick a color label.

  4. Select the contacts, labels, or keyword filters to automatically assign chats to that folder.

  5. Save changes to view your new folder tabs displayed at the top of your primary chat screen.

Availability

The feature is currently rolling out in batches to Android and iOS WhatsApp Business users worldwide. Meta confirmed that all registered business accounts will receive the update over the coming weeks as part of version 2.26.15.
