China Q3 GDP grew 4.5% year on year in the July-September quarter, faster than the 4.3% recorded in the second quarter and ahead of market expectations, according to data released by the National Bureau of Statistics on Monday.
Growth for the first three quarters of 2026 stood at 4.6%, keeping the world’s second-largest economy in line with its annual target. Total output for the nine months reached about 107.11 trillion yuan.
What drove China Q3 GDP growth
Trade was a major support. Goods trade rose 18.8% in the first three quarters, with imports up 22.3%, as exports surged despite global uncertainty.
Industrial value-added output grew 5.3%, led by high-tech manufacturing, which jumped 14.3%. The services sector expanded 5.2%, with information technology and software services up 10.4%.
Weak spots remain
Household spending stayed soft. Retail sales of goods rose just 1.1% in the first nine months, while retail sales of services increased 5%. Fixed-asset investment also declined during the period.
The surveyed urban unemployment rate averaged 5.2%, and real per capita disposable income grew 4.4%. Energy consumption per unit of GDP dropped 3.1%.
The government said it will focus on expanding domestic demand and making macroeconomic policies more effective in the final quarter of the year.
Why it matters for Pakistan
China is Pakistan’s largest trading partner and a key source of investment under CPEC. Stronger Chinese demand and trade activity can support regional supply chains, while softer consumer spending in China remains a risk for exporters across Asia.
