Pakistan’s ISPR issues warning to former PM Imran Khan over baseless allegations

The Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) has issued a warning to former Prime Minister Imran Khan against making “baseless allegations” against the military. In a statement released on Monday, the military’s media wing said that the armed forces “have always supported the democratic process and will continue to do so.”

The statement comes after Imran Khan, who was recently removed from office, accused the military of interfering in politics and orchestrating his ouster. He has also alleged that the military played a role in the 2018 elections that brought his party to power.

The ISPR statement said that such accusations were “baseless and unfounded” and warned that they could harm the country’s democratic process. “It is the responsibility of all political leaders to respect the mandate of the people and work towards strengthening democracy in the country,” the statement read.

The military has been a powerful force in Pakistan’s politics, with several coups and periods of direct military rule in the country’s history. However, the armed forces have publicly stated their commitment to democracy in recent years.

The statement from the ISPR is seen as a warning to Imran Khan and other political leaders to avoid making allegations against the military, which could harm Pakistan’s democracy and stability.
