Samsung has confirmed that a data breach exposed the personal information of some of its customers. The company said in a statement that the breach occurred between July 1, 2019, and June 30, 2020, and that the exposed data includes names, phone numbers, postal and email addresses. Samsung said that it is investigating the breach and that it has taken steps to prevent future breaches.

The breach is the latest in a series of security incidents that have affected Samsung in recent years. In March 2022, the hacker group Lapsus$ claimed to have stolen the source code for Galaxy smartphones from Samsung’s systems. In September 2022, Samsung confirmed in a brief notice that attackers had accessed some information from some of Samsung’s U.S. systems but declined to say how many customers were affected.

The latest breach is likely to raise concerns about Samsung’s data security practices. The company has a history of security vulnerabilities, and this breach could damage its reputation and customer trust.

What customers can do

Samsung has advised customers to change their passwords for their Samsung accounts and any other online accounts that they may have used the same password for. Customers should also be wary of phishing emails and texts that may be attempting to steal their personal information.

Impact of the breach

The full extent of the breach is still unknown, but it is likely to have an impact on Samsung’s reputation and customer trust. The company will need to take steps to improve its data security practices in order to prevent future breaches.

Advice for consumers

Consumers should be vigilant about protecting their personal information online. They should use strong passwords and avoid clicking on links or opening attachments from unknown senders. They should also be aware of the latest security threats and take steps to protect their devices and accounts.
