Punjab Tightens Security for Women’s World Cup and PSL 10

The Punjab government has taken comprehensive steps to ensure strict security arrangements for two major international cricket events being held in the province — the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup Qualifier and the Pakistan Super League season 10 (PSL-X). To provide foolproof security, the provincial authorities have requested the deployment of Rangers, army personnel, and aerial surveillance units.

The ICC Women’s World Cup Qualifier is scheduled to take place in Lahore from April 9 to April 20. The event will feature women’s cricket teams from Pakistan, Bangladesh, Scotland, Ireland, the West Indies, and Thailand. Considering the international importance of the tournament, the federal government has granted VVIP status to all participating teams. In response, the Punjab Home Department has designed a high-level three-tier security plan to safeguard players and officials throughout the event.

Police and Special Protection Unit (SPU) officers will provide close protection, while a wing of Punjab Rangers and two companies of the ex-standard infantry battalion will assist in maintaining security. In addition, an anti-terrorist platoon and a helicopter will remain on standby to respond in case of any emergency.

The PSL-X is also scheduled to begin on April 11, with matches planned in Lahore, Multan, and Rawalpindi. This event will see the participation of international players, coaches, match officials, foreign dignitaries, and production and media crews. The Punjab government has proposed similar security arrangements for the PSL to ensure the safety of everyone involved. The Ministry of Interior has approved the deployment of required forces, highlighting the government’s commitment to hosting both tournaments peacefully and successfully.
