DIG Traffic Waqas Nazir revealed that cameras at all driving license testing centers will now remain active at all times, capturing video evidence of every test. These recordings will be permanently stored at the Safe Cities data center to guarantee transparency.

Beginning September, Artificial Intelligence (AI) will also play a role in driving tests. Vehicle sensors and AI monitoring will detect mistakes in real time, providing an unbiased assessment of each applicant’s ability.

“This reform ensures that no one can bypass the system, whether through recommendations or bribery. Only skilled drivers will be licensed,” Nazir said.

The reforms are part of a broader effort to curb the culture of malpractice in Punjab’s licensing system. For years, shortcuts in obtaining licenses have allowed untrained drivers on the roads, contributing to accidents and unsafe driving conditions.

Officials believe that a transparent and foolproof process will restore credibility to the licensing authority and improve overall traffic safety in the province. The introduction of AI is expected to set a precedent for other provinces as Pakistan moves toward digitisation in governance.
