The Murree Expressway has been temporarily closed to all non-essential traffic after heavy snowfall affected the area, authorities said on Thursday.
Officials confirmed that the closure applies to the section between Phulgara Toll Plaza and Murree, as snow accumulation made travel unsafe for general traffic.
Local residents have been allowed limited access to the hill station through the N-75 highway, which remains open despite the prevailing weather conditions.
The National Highway and Motorway Police announced the development through social media, advising visitors to avoid travelling to Murree unless it is absolutely necessary.
Authorities said teams from the National Highway and Motorway Police and the National Highway Authority are working continuously to clear snow from the expressway.
Specialised machinery has been deployed to speed up snow removal efforts and restore normal traffic flow as soon as conditions permit.

Officials stressed that public safety remains the top priority during the ongoing weather situation in the region.
Motorists travelling in surrounding areas have been urged to exercise caution and strictly follow instructions issued by traffic personnel.
Travellers have also been advised to equip their vehicles with tyre chains, ensure fuel tanks are full and remain alert to changing road conditions.
Weather reports indicate that rain and snowfall are expected to continue in Murree and the nearby Galiyat region until early January.
In view of the forecast, authorities said heightened readiness would be maintained along with continuous snow-clearing operations in the affected areas.
