Fatal Ambush During Transport:
According to official police sources, the incident took place in the Kot Sabzal area of Rahim Yar Khan District. Teefi Butt was reportedly being transported by the Crime Control Department (CCD) when the police convoy was ambushed by armed assailants—allegedly his own accomplices—in a brazen attempt to free him.
A fierce exchange of gunfire ensued between the police and the attackers. Police sources claim that during the intense crossfire, Teefi Butt was fatally struck by bullets fired by his own associates. His body has been moved to a local morgue, and law enforcement agencies have launched an extensive search operation to apprehend the remaining gunmen.
A High-Profile Saga:
The death of the prime suspect brings a sudden end to the pursuit in the sensational murder case of Ameer Balaj Tipu, the son of the late Lahore underworld figure, Tipu Truckanwala. Balaj was assassinated in February 2024 at a wedding ceremony near Thokar Niaz Beg, an attack believed to be rooted in a decades-long family feud.
Teefi Butt and his co-accused, Khawaja Aqeel alias Gogi Butt, were both nominated in the FIR. Following the murder, Teefi Butt had fled the country, traveling first to Glasgow before settling in Dubai, prompting the Punjab Police to secure an Interpol Red Warrant for his capture.
His recent arrest in Dubai and subsequent extradition was hailed as a major breakthrough in the case. However, today’s alleged police encounter and the resulting death of the key suspect has shocked the city and added a new, complex chapter to the continuing investigation. Authorities are continuing to pursue Gogi Butt and other named suspects.
