During a National Assembly session, the minister clarified that the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) is processing applications only from companies registered with the Securities & Exchange Commission of Pakistan (SECP). This ensures that all applicants meet local registration requirements before applying for operational licenses.
Who’s Coming to Pakistan?
- Starlink, a SpaceX subsidiary, aims to revolutionize internet connectivity with its satellite-based internet services.
- Shanghai Spacecom Satellite Technology, a leading Chinese satellite communication company, seeks to bring advanced solutions to the Pakistani market.
The licensing process, according to the minister, is seamless and efficient. Once applications fulfill codal formalities and pass necessary security clearances from the Ministry of Interior, PTA moves forward with approvals. Additionally, the introduction of the Online Application Submission Information System (OASIS) has made applying and tracking progress easier than ever.
To ensure top-tier internet quality, PTA actively monitors providers under the Fixed Broadband Quality of Service (QoS) Regulations, 2022. Regular evaluations are conducted to maintain global performance standards, aiming to provide reliable, high-speed connectivity across Pakistan.
This entry of global satellite giants marks a transformative step for Pakistan’s tech sector, promising to enhance connectivity and digital infrastructure nationwide.
