The 64-year-old, who was not present at the Los Angeles ceremony, had his award accepted on his behalf by comedian Jordan Klepper.
Our Oceans is a five-part series produced by the creators of Our Great National Parks, which won Obama his first Emmy in 2022. Using state-of-the-art underwater filming technology, the series explored marine life in the Pacific, Atlantic, Indian, Southern, and Arctic Oceans. Obama’s narration in the “Indian Ocean” episode was particularly singled out for praise.
The category featured a strong field of nominees, including Sir David Attenborough (Planet Earth: Asia), Idris Elba (Erased: WW2’s Heroes of Color), Tom Hanks (The Americas), and Phoebe Waller-Bridge (Octopus!).
This marks Obama’s third consecutive Emmy, following last year’s win for Working: What We Do All Day. Beyond his political legacy, Obama is carving out a reputation as one of the most prominent voices in modern documentary storytelling.
His ability to bring depth and emotion to narratives has been widely recognised, with critics highlighting his calm, engaging delivery as key to the success of his projects.
With three Emmys and two Grammy Awards, Obama has become one of the rare public figures to straddle politics and entertainment with consistent acclaim.
