The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has begun a public consultation process on Quality of Service (QoS) legislation, in which the public, consumers, and broadband service providers are invited to participate. The proposed ‘Fixed-line QoS Regulations,’ according to the telecom regulator, are posted on the PTA website and are open for comments, views, and criticism until March 15.

Inspections, surveys, and benchmarking exercises are conducted on a regular basis by the regulator to guarantee that communications service users receive the best possible QoS levels. Through this consultative strategy, the PTA also hopes to engage service providers in a series of constructive talks in order to remove obstructions to service quality. The PTA also publishes QoS findings on a regular basis so that users can compare operators.

Following previous studies indicating a decline in the quality of telecom services in the country, the telecom regulator has increased the frequency of QoS surveys. On February 18, the PTA published a draught of the new QoS regulations on its website, and has now launched a public consultation on the document, which will be subject to amendment based on feedback received during the process.
