Global satellite internet provider Starlink is poised to launch its services in Pakistan by the end of this year, marking a major milestone in the country’s digital transformation. Sources told that Elon Musk, founder of SpaceX and currently the world’s richest person, is expected to attend the official launch ceremony planned for later this year.

The Pakistan Space Activities Regulatory Board (PSARB) is currently finalizing an international satellite regulatory framework. Once completed, this framework will pave the way for Starlink’s formal registration in Pakistan. The draft has been developed with input from multiple satellite internet providers, including through a recent workshop held at a local hotel. The event was attended by several global players like Shanghai Telecom, Amazon, and OneWeb, and featured the presence of Pakistan’s Federal Minister for IT and Telecommunication, Shaza Fatima Khawaja.

Among all the companies that showed interest, Starlink is the first to formally submit a registration application. After successful registration under the new framework, the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) is expected to issue Starlink a license to operate in the country.

Starlink is already operational in several South Asian countries. Its launch in Pakistan is anticipated to significantly enhance national connectivity, improve access to digital services, and boost economic growth by enabling better education, healthcare, and business opportunities.

Sources also noted that Starlink’s operations pose no threat to national security, and its entry into the Pakistani market is being seen as a major technological breakthrough for the country.
