Currently, India from group A, Australia from group B, Afghanistan and West Indies from group C, and South Africa from group D are in a comfortable position in terms of qualifying for the Super-8 stage.

On the other hand, the USA, Pakistan, New Zealand, England, and Sri Lanka are still hanging in the middle.

Pakistan beat Canada to keep their hopes and place alive in the World Cup, but still their chances of qualifying for the Super-8 stage are dependent on a variety of factors.

Let’s take a look at how close are any of these teams to qualifying and what could improve or worsen their chances.

Can Pakistan qualify for the Super-8 stage?

Despite winning the contest against Canada with 7 wickets and 15 balls to spare, Pakistan’s chances for qualifying are dependent on a variety of factors.

Their net run rate has now improved to 0.191, which means they are almost certain of qualifying if they beat Ireland, and if USA loses their two remaining matches against India and Ireland.

If either match gets cancelled due to rain, Pakistan’s chances to qualify will go down the drain.

Moreover, if USA lose their two remaining matches by a combined margin of ten runs (with scores of 140 by the team batting first), a win by any margin will be enough for Pakistan as long as they score at least 112 batting first.

Live cricket: How can England qualify for Super-8?

England are in a position similar to Pakistan’s: they need to win their last two, and hope that Scotland lose their last game, against Australia on 15 June.

However, they have much more work to do as compared to Pakistan because their NRR is -1.8 and Scotland’s NRR is +2.164.

If Australia beats Scotland by 20 runs (say, chasing 172), England will have to win their last two games, against Oman and Namibia, by a combined margin of at least 94 runs to go ahead of Scotland on run rate.

Like Pakistan, England will also be hoping that no match gets washed out due to rain as it will completely diminish their chances for qualifying.

T20 World Cup Super 8 qualification scenario for New Zealand

New Zealand’s first and only defeat against Afghanistan with a whopping 84 runs has greatly reduced their chances for qualifying. Their net run rate is at an all time low of -4.2.

On the other hand, Afghanistan and West Indies are in a seemingly comfortable position in terms of net run rate and points.

New Zealand will have to beat the West Indies in order to have some hope for their Super-8 stage qualification.

If they are successful in doing it, then the kiwis will have to win their subsequent matches against Uganda and Papua New Guinea with a considerable margin.

Defeat against West Indies will knock New Zealand out of the tournament and hence, their matches against Uganda and Papua New Guinea will hold no significance.
