With monsoon season peaking, severe weather warnings have been issued across Pakistan, from the urban flood risk in Karachi to rising river levels in Punjab. Authorities are urging vigilance as rainstorms sweep across large parts of the country.

In Karachi, heavy rainfall and thunderstorms are forecast between September 7 and 9, with urban flooding expected in poorly drained areas. The Pakistan Meteorological Department has warned of strong winds, waterlogging, and power outages. Temperatures remain high, with daytime heat and humidity compounding the discomfort.

Meanwhile, Punjab faces a separate but equally severe threat: riverine flooding. Intense monsoon rains in upper catchments have led to dangerously high water flows in major rivers. The Chenab, Ravi, and Sutlej are all flowing above normal levels at multiple points, with Head Trimon and Balloki recording the highest readings.

The Provincial Disaster Management Authority in Punjab has activated emergency protocols. Residents near rivers have been told to evacuate or prepare for possible displacement. Local administrations are coordinating efforts to monitor embankments, secure flood barriers, and deliver relief supplies.

This widespread weather disruption highlights the strain on Pakistan’s infrastructure and disaster response systems. With rainfall patterns growing more unpredictable, climate resilience has become a key concern for both urban and rural populations.

Experts warn that while the weather may ease after September 9, the consequences of flooding—damaged crops, displaced families, and waterborne diseases—could linger for weeks.
