The Pakistan Pharmaceutical Manufacturers’ Association (PPMA) is going to organize the 1st Pharma Export Summit & Awards-2021 (PESA) at a hotel in Islamabad on September 29. The PPMA is organizing the first-ever summit and awards to encourage pharmaceutical exports from the country.
Chairman PPMA Tauqeer ul Haq said that at present Pakistan’s annual pharmaceutical exports was around US $ 250 million to $ 270 m. He said that Pakistan exported pharmaceutical products mainly to regional countries including Thailand, Afghanistan, Cambodia, Myanmar, the Philippines, and the Central Asian States.
He said that Pakistan had the potential to quickly increase its annual medicines’ exports to the US $ 1 billion if the proposed Therapeutic Goods’ Export Council was established by the government. He said the proposed council would act as the one-stop shop to provide solutions to every issue related to pharmaceutical exports from Pakistan.
Haroon Qasim Former Chairman PPMA said that such a one-window operation was urgently required in the country as the Drug Regulatory Authority of Pakistan alone couldn’t expeditiously process all the export-related affairs of the drug manufacturers.
Dr Kaiser Waheed, Chairman of the PESA’s organizing committee said the PESA’s guests of honour will be Adviser to Prime Minister on Commerce and Investments, Abdul Razak Dawood; Federal Planning and Development Minister, Asad Umar; Special Assistant to PM on Health, Dr Faisal Sultan; and Special Assistant to PM on CPEC issues, Khalid Mansoor.
Also on the occasion, the top 50 drug producers of Pakistan will be given awards for showing excellence in enhancing pharmaceutical exports from the country.
