Pakistan to Launch 5G in July 2024, Secures 300 MHz Spectrum

Caretaker Minister of IT & Telecom, Dr. Umar Saif, has revealed plans for the expansion of Pakistan’s IT exports in the Middle East. In a significant move, memorandums of understanding have been inked with three Qatari companies, marking a strategic initiative to boost IT exports in the region.

Dr. Umar Saif shared that the launch of 5G is slated for July next year, with plans to address the 300 MHz spectrum for its implementation. Acknowledging the concerns of telecommunication companies regarding 5G, he assured that actions are being taken to resolve these issues. Additionally, a dedicated telecommunication tribunal is set to be established within three weeks, accompanied by the formation of an action advisory committee specifically focused on 5G. The hiring of a consultant for 5G action is also in the pipeline, with optimism that all telecommunication companies will actively participate in acquiring the spectrum.

Highlighting the significance of women’s involvement in decision-making processes, Dr. Umar Saif stressed the need for providing equal opportunities for women in business. The government has initiated various schemes aimed at empowering women in different sectors.

During the ceremony, officials from the World Bank Group shed light on environmental measures and increased capital to support women in business. Dr. Umar Saif expressed his belief that empowering rural women can significantly propel the country forward on the path of development. This comprehensive approach signifies a commitment to technological advancement, gender inclusivity, and sustainable growth in the IT sector.
