Federal Interior Minister’s Directives Fail: Mobile Sims on Expired CNICs Remain Active

The PTA is unaware of how many SIMs are active on over-expired ID cards. According to the PTA spokesman, no orders will be received from the Ministry of Interior regarding the closure of SIMs running on over-expired ID cards. NADRA will determine the number of SIMs.

Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi issued orders during his visit to NADRA headquarters on April 18, directing that all SIMs associated with expired or invalid ID cards be deactivated. In a response from PTA, stated that there is no record available of the number of mobile SIMs active on over-expired ID cards.

No official orders have been received yet; however, if any directives are issued in this regard, they will be implemented in accordance with the law, following consultation with all stakeholders.

The worrying situation is that sims are also being used in the name of deceased individuals, they have also not been blocked.
