Instagram has launched a dedicated iPad app, ending years of anticipation among users who wanted a seamless experience on Apple’s tablets.

The app eliminates the need to rely on the iPhone version, which was merely stretched to fit larger displays. The new design delivers a more functional and visually appealing interface tailored for iPads.
Upon opening, users land directly on Reels, underscoring Instagram’s push toward video-first content. Navigation has been shifted to a left-hand sidebar, with Stories displayed at the top. Features such as Explore, Following, Notifications, Search, and Messages remain easily accessible.
Instagram has also refined the feed system with three categories: All, Friends, and Latest. Each serves a different purpose — from recommendations to chronological updates — and users can rearrange them to suit their browsing style.
The interface has been adjusted for multitasking. Comments appear neatly beside Reels, while the messaging system adopts a split-screen format, showing both conversations and active chats simultaneously.
Although Instagram launched nearly 15 years ago, leadership repeatedly downplayed the need for an iPad version. Only in 2025 did reports surface that development was finally underway. The absence of an official app had allowed third-party developers like Retro to gain popularity, but Instagram’s latest move is expected to overshadow those alternatives.
The app is now available for download on all iPads running iOS 15.1 or newer.
