According to a source close to the case, the incident occurred in Paris’s 13th district shortly before 10:30 pm (8:30 pm GMT), with one officer sustaining life-threatening injuries.
Later, the Paris public prosecutor’s office affirmed the source’s account to AFP. Nunez, accompanied by prosecutor Laure Beccuau, arrived at the scene around midnight.
Nunez informed reporters that the suspect had been arrested around 10 pm for a “very violent attack on a woman” using a box cutter. He stated that during processing at the police station, the suspect “snatched the weapon” and “seriously” wounded the two officers.
The injured officers and the suspect were promptly transferred to the hospital. Nunez expressed concern for the officers’ health and praised the station staff’s “courage and responsiveness.” He disclosed that an investigation was underway to determine the “circumstances” of the incident.
The prosecutor’s office informed AFP that three investigations had been initiated: one into the “attempted murder of the woman,” another into the “attempted murder of persons holding public authority,” and a third by the IGPN, the national police’s internal affairs department, to examine the use of “intentional violence with a weapon by a person holding public authority.”
The office clarified that the suspect, hospitalized with a chest wound, was not in critical condition. It stated, “The investigations should clarify the circumstances of the events, the identity of the suspect, and his potential connections to the female victim.”
