National Savings Profit Rates Increased from October 21

Date:

The government has raised National Savings profit rates on several schemes, including accounts for pensioners, senior citizens and families of martyrs, with the new rates applying from October 21, 2026.

The revised schedule was issued by the Central Directorate of National Savings (CDNS). It covers Behbood certificates, Regular Income Certificates, Special Savings Certificates, Defence Savings Certificates, short-term certificates and Sharia-compliant Sarwa accounts.

New National Savings Profit Rates at a Glance

  • Behbood Savings Certificates, Pensioners’ Benefit Account and Shuhada Family Welfare Account: 12.96%, up from 12.72%. Monthly profit on Rs100,000 rises to Rs1,080 from Rs1,060.
  • Regular Income Certificates: 12.12%, up from 11.76%, paying Rs1,010 a month on Rs100,000 against Rs980 before.
  • Special Savings Certificates: 12%, up from 11.6%, for the first five payments, or Rs6,000 every six months on Rs100,000. The sixth payment is Rs6,400 at 12.8%.
  • Short Term Savings Certificates: three-month rate up to 11.12% from 10.80%, with up to 11.72% for longer terms.
  • Sarwa Islamic accounts: term accounts now pay 11.84% to 12.12%, while the Sarwa Islamic Savings Account rises to 11.84% from 11.33%.
  • Ordinary Savings Account: unchanged at 10%.

Defence Savings Certificates Returns

Cumulative returns on Defence Savings Certificates have gone up across all maturities: six years 88% (from 86%), seven years 113% (from 109%), eight years 142% (from 136%), nine years 176% (from 168%) and ten years 215% (from 205%).

Tax and What It Means for Savers

Profit is still subject to withholding tax of 15% for filers and 30% for non-filers, and Zakat is deducted where it applies, so filer status makes a big difference to the final return.

The increase is good news for retirees and families who rely on monthly income from National Savings, at a time when fuel, LPG and food costs are squeezing household budgets. Savers planning fresh investments can confirm the applicable rate at their nearest National Savings centre.
