Pakistani cinema and television mourned the loss of veteran actor and director Khalid Saleem Butt, who passed away in Lahore on Thursday night at the age of 76. Reportedly, complications from liver and kidney diseases claimed the beloved artist.

Butt’s career, spanning across decades, witnessed him breathe life into countless characters on the silver screen and television. His journey began in the 1970s, gracing both Urdu and Punjabi films and captivating audiences with his versatile performances. Television series like the ongoing “Khaie,” where he played Faysal Quraishi’s father, also showcased his talent.
Beyond acting, Butt also donned the director’s hat for a film and was even honored with the prestigious Pride of Performance award for his invaluable contributions to the arts. In particular, his roles in PTV productions like “Jangal Pura” (1997), “Boota to Toba Tek Singh” (1999), and “Landa Bazaar” (2002) remain etched in viewers’ memories.
Tributes flowed freely on social media as fellow actors expressed their grief and shared fond memories. Faysal Quraishi, his co-star from “Khaie,” took to Instagram with a heartfelt video, reminiscing about their on-screen journey and revealing how Butt persevered through pain and illness during filming. Actors Hina Khawaja Bayat, Sami Khan, Tipu Sharif, and Saba Qamar also took to social media to offer condolences.
