PMD Forecasts Rain and Snow Across Pakistan

The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) forecasts varying intensity rainfall with snowfall in Islamabad, Rawalpindi, and parts of the country from Wednesday evening/night through Thursday. This is due to a prevailing westerly wave over upper/central Pakistan. Expect rain-wind/thunderstorms, snowfall over hills, and isolated hailstorms in Islamabad, Rawalpindi, upper Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Kashmir, and Gilgit-Baltistan on Wednesday evening/night. Thursday and Friday may bring light rain-wind/thunderstorms and snowfall over hills in isolated spots in Kashmir and Gilgit Baltistan, with cold and dry weather elsewhere.

In Islamabad, Thursday and Friday’s minimum temperatures may range between 08-10°C, while Rawalpindi’s temperatures could hover between 11-13°C. During the past 24 hours, isolated rain-wind/thunderstorms occurred in upper Sindh, northern Balochistan, central/southern Punjab, upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Kashmir, and Gilgit-Baltistan.

Rainfall measurements in various regions include Sindh: Mohenjodaro 17mm, Khairpur 16mm, Larkana 12mm, Sukkur 07mm, Jacobabad 02mm, Padidan 01mm; Balochistan: Quetta (City 13mm, Samungli 11mm), Khuzdar 07mm, Zhob 05mm, Sibbi 03mm, Kalat 02mm, Barkhan, Panjgur 01mm; Kashmir: Garhidupatta 08mm, Muzaffarabad 06mm, Rawalakot 02mm; Khyber Pakhtunkhwa: Chitral 04mm, Mirkhani, Drosh 02mm, Dir (upper, lower 01mm); Punjab: Multan (Airport, City 01mm), Layyah 01mm.

Leh remained the coldest place at 07°C below freezing, with Islamabad recording a minimum temperature of 11°C and Rawalpindi at 14°C. Morning relative humidity was 70% in Islamabad and 61% in Rawalpindi.
