PTA Launches Advanced Web Portal to Monitor Telecom Coverage and Service Quality, The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has officially unveiled a new, high-tech web-based portal designed to provide real-time monitoring of telecom network performance across the country. This initiative aims to enhance transparency by allowing the public and regulators to track network coverage, signal strength, and overall service quality provided by various Cellular Mobile Operators (CMOs).

Empowering Consumers with Real-Time Data
The portal, integrated with a Geographic Information System (GIS), serves as a digital map of Pakistan’s telecom footprint. It moves beyond traditional static reports, offering a dynamic look at how mobile networks are performing in specific tehsils, districts, and cities.
Key features of the new portal include:
-
Coverage Mapping: Users can visualize 2G, 3G, 4G, and the upcoming 5G coverage layers to see which operator offers the best signal in their specific neighborhood.
-
Quality of Service (QoS) Tracking: Real-time data on key performance indicators (KPIs) like call drop rates, data speeds, and network latency.
-
Public Benchmarking: The portal allows for a direct comparison between operators (Jazz, Zong, Telenor, and Ufone), encouraging healthy competition to improve infrastructure.
-
Complaint Integration: Users can view “complaint hotspots,” helping the PTA identify areas where service degradation is a persistent issue.
Strengthening Regulatory Oversight
For the PTA, this portal is a powerful tool for enforcement. By having instant access to network statistics, the regulator can:
-
Identify Dead Zones: Pinpoint areas where operators are failing to meet their license obligations for coverage.
-
Verify Operator Claims: Ensure that the “high-speed 4G” advertised by companies matches the actual user experience on the ground.
-
Prepare for 5G: Use the current coverage data to plan the rollout of the 5G spectrum auction winners later this March.
A Push for Digital Transparency
PTA Chairman highlighted that this portal is part of a broader “National Telecom Monitoring Solution.” By making this data public, the PTA is shifting from periodic manual surveys to a crowd-sourced and automated monitoring model. This ensures that operators remain under constant scrutiny not just from the government, but from the millions of mobile users they serve.
