The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) today announced the decisive suspension of a specific Data Class Value-Added Services (CVAS) license held by Huawei Technologies Pakistan (Pvt.) Limited. This stern action underscores the PTA’s unwavering commitment to regulatory enforcement and zero tolerance for non-compliance within Pakistan’s vital telecommunications sector.

Effective immediately, License No. DIR(L)/CVAS-877-PTA/2017, granted to Huawei in 2017 for internal vehicle tracking services, has been revoked. This decisive measure was necessitated by Huawei’s persistent failure to operationalize services under the said license and obtain the mandatory commencement certificate, despite repeated notifications and ample opportunity to comply with established regulations.

“The PTA’s mandate is clear: ensure a level playing field and absolute adherence to the terms and conditions under which licenses are issued,” declared a senior PTA official. “No entity, regardless of its stature, is exempt from the regulatory framework designed to protect consumer interests and maintain the integrity of our national digital infrastructure. This action serves as a definitive reminder that licenses are privileges, not entitlements, and their terms will be enforced.”

While Huawei’s core operations and partnerships with telecom operators remain outside the scope of this specific suspension, the PTA wishes to make it unequivocally clear that its oversight extends to every licensed activity. This targeted action against a non-performing license demonstrates the Authority’s readiness to act swiftly and decisively against any entity failing to meet its obligations.

The PTA remains vigilant and committed to fostering a robust and compliant telecommunications environment in Pakistan. All licensees are hereby reminded of their obligations to ensure timely commencement of services and strict adherence to all licensing conditions. Failure to do so will result in similar, swift, and uncompromising regulatory action.
