The highly anticipated action-thriller “Dhurandhar” is dominating Google Trends after its fiery first-look teaser dropped on Sunday, coinciding with lead actor Ranveer Singh’s 40th birthday. While the teaser has largely been met with enthusiastic applause for its intense visuals and Ranveer’s “fierce” new avatar, it has also sparked a significant online debate regarding the 20-year age gap between Singh and his reported leading lady, Sara Arjun.

Directed by Aditya Dhar, known for “Uri: The Surgical Strike,” “Dhurandhar” promises a gritty, high-stakes narrative. The 2-minute, 39-second teaser opens with a brooding Ranveer Singh, hinting at a raw and action-packed performance. His bloodied face, disheveled long hair, and rugged beard have resonated strongly with fans, many of whom are hailing it as a powerful “comeback” for the actor. The film also boasts a stellar ensemble cast including Sanjay Dutt, R. Madhavan, Akshaye Khanna, and Arjun Rampal, all appearing in impactful new looks.
However, the reveal of 20-year-old Sara Arjun as the female lead opposite a 40-year-old Ranveer Singh has drawn considerable criticism on social media. Sara, a former child actor, is now featured prominently, raising questions about the industry’s continued pattern of casting significantly younger women opposite middle-aged male stars. Netizens have voiced concerns, with some comments suggesting “dad-daughter vibes” and questioning the potential for a romantic pairing.
Despite the controversy, the teaser’s compelling visuals and the hint that the film is “inspired by true events” have kept excitement high. Speculation is rife that the storyline might be loosely based on the life of India’s National Security Advisor, Ajit Doval, with many believing R. Madhavan’s transformed look in the teaser bears a striking resemblance to Doval.
“Dhurandhar,” backed by Jio Studios and B62 Studios, is slated for a December 5, 2025 release, setting the stage for a major box office clash with Prabhas’ “The RajaSaab.” As the debate continues, all eyes will be on the filmmakers to see how they address the age gap dynamic and whether the film lives up to the immense hype generated by its powerful first look.
