Beauty Obasuyi is the Founder of Naija Jollof, the coolest spot for Nigerian grub in Toronto. She came all the way from Nigeria in 2009, and now she’s slinging the best Jollof rice in town. Real estate agent turned food queen.
Opened in 2018 up in Mississauga, this food gem isn’t your average joint. It’s two floors up in Westwood Square Mall, but trust me, it’s worth the stairs. Why? ‘Cause they got that magic called Jollof rice – a West African delight.
Now, Beauty, she’s no stranger to adventures. She landed in Toronto from Nigeria back in 2009, and let me tell you, it was November. The cold hit her, but she hit back, and that’s what makes her and her restaurant special.
Originally a real estate maven, Beauty caught the food bug during a showing when she couldn’t find a decent African spot. So, what did she do? Started Naija Jollof.
“We need more African food variety here. We’re probably at one per cent. We still have a lot of work to do,” she says.
Now, Naija Jollof isn’t just in Mississauga; there’s a second spot in Waterloo, and Beauty dreams of spreading the joy even more.
In Beauty’s words,
“We’re only two years old, it just needs time to grow. A baby can’t eat solids right away.”
So, the goal? A Naija Jollof within eight kilometers of anyone who craves it. That’s the dream, and Beauty’s got the recipe for success – it’s in the perseverance, the love for food, and the belief that good things take time. So, if you’re in Toronto and haven’t tasted the magic of Naija Jollof, what are you waiting for? Your taste buds will thank you.
