Toyota Australia has recalled 5,925 RAV4 plug-in hybrid SUVs over a manufacturing issue that could cause the vehicle to lose motive power.
RAV4 plug-in hybrid models affected
The recall covers 2026 RAV4 plug-in hybrid models, specifically the XSE two-wheel drive (AXAP62R) and the GR Sport four-wheel drive (AXAP64R). Toyota announced the action on October 9.
The company said a fault in the motor generator electronic control unit (MG-ECU) may stop the motor initialisation process from completing correctly. This can prevent the electric motor from working as intended at higher speeds, triggering warning lights and possibly fail-safe mode or shutdown, with a risk of losing motive power.
What owners should do
Toyota will contact affected owners in writing and ask them to book an appointment with a Toyota dealer, where the repair will be carried out free of charge.
