The World Bank is preparing a new project to support Pakistani start-ups, with a $50 million fund of funds that will invest through venture capital firms in early-stage companies.
The Pakistan Entrepreneurship and Private Investment Catalyst Project is expected to go to the bank’s board for approval in early 2027.
How the fund will help Pakistani start-ups
Instead of investing directly in companies, the fund of funds will put money into venture capital funds. Those funds will then invest in Pakistani start-ups, which is expected to bring in more private capital alongside the World Bank money.
Wider aim
The project also aims to improve the rules and support system for entrepreneurs, so that more businesses can grow, create jobs and attract foreign investment.
