Speaking at the event, the minister emphasized that EVs represent the future of Pakistan’s mobility sector and reiterated the government’s commitment to promoting green energy. He also announced a major reduction in the cost of electric charging units, bringing it down from Rs71 to Rs39 per unit, making EV adoption more accessible for consumers.

Leghari assured that further reductions in electricity rates are under consideration and hinted that Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif will soon announce a relief package to ease the financial burden on power consumers.

The prime minister had earlier stated that the government is working on a plan to transfer financial benefits from global oil price fluctuations to electricity consumers. The upcoming relief package is expected to lower power tariffs, potentially contributing to inflation reduction.

Meanwhile, the Central Power Purchasing Agency (CPPA) has submitted a request for a monthly fuel price adjustment for February. According to the CPPA, electricity production for the month was recorded at 6.49 billion units, while 6.66 billion units were supplied to power companies. The cost of electricity per unit stood at Rs8.22, with the reference cost set at Rs8.52 per unit.

As Pakistan continues to embrace cleaner energy solutions, the inauguration of the fast EV charging station represents a significant milestone in the country’s efforts to reduce reliance on fossil fuels and promote sustainable transportation infrastructure.
