The appointment comes after Telenor Pakistan became an autonomous subsidiary of Pakistan Telecommunication Company Limited after PTCL acquired full ownership.
The board acknowledged the leadership of former chief executive Fridtjof Rusten, crediting his role during a critical phase of the company’s transition.
It said his leadership helped steer a complex transaction and regulatory process while maintaining operational stability, customer confidence, and organisational focus.
PTCL recently completed the acquisition of 100 percent of Telenor Pakistan’s issued share capital, but regulatory directives require the company to operate as a separate legal entity.
Under this structure, Telenor Pakistan will function alongside Pak Telecom Mobile Limited, known as Ufone 4G, and U Microfinance Bank.
Awais Vohra brings more than 25 years of experience in the telecommunications sector, with senior roles held in Pakistan and Scandinavia.
He was a founding member of Telenor Pakistan’s launch team and has been associated with initiatives focused on organisational performance and large-scale transformation.
Most recently, as Chief Technology Officer, he led network modernisation, artificial intelligence adoption, and technology transformation efforts.
PTCL had announced the acquisition of Telenor Pakistan and Orion Towers in December 2023, with regulatory approvals granted later.
The Competition Commission of Pakistan approved the transaction on October 1, 2025, followed by approval from the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority on December 5, 2025.
Telenor Pakistan said it will continue providing uninterrupted services nationwide during the transition process.
