Coca-Cola Hit with Class-Action Lawsuit over ‘100% Natural Flavors’ Fraud in Sprite & Fanta

Coca-Cola is under fire in the U.S. as a class-action lawsuit accuses the beverage giant of deliberately misleading consumers by branding its Sprite and Fanta drinks as containing “100% Natural Flavors”—despite being loaded with synthetic additives and artificial sweeteners.

Filed on May 27 in a California federal court by plaintiff Victoria Palmer, the suit blasts Coca-Cola for false advertising and greenwashing, citing ingredients like industrially manufactured citric acid, sodium citrate, potassium citrate, aspartame, and acesulfame potassium—a far cry from “natural.”

Palmer says she felt deceived and defrauded, having purchased these drinks believing they were made from genuinely natural sources. The lawsuit states she would not have bought them—or would have paid less—had she known the truth. The complaint invokes multiple state and federal violations, including California’s Consumers Legal Remedies Act, Unfair Competition Law, False Advertising Law, and sections of the federal Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act.

This isn’t just a legal battle—it’s a public reckoning. The lawsuit calls out Coca-Cola’s alleged manipulation of health-conscious branding to boost sales, a move critics say betrays consumer trust and exploits public concern over artificial ingredients.

The suit targets multiple Sprite and Fanta varieties, including zero-sugar and seasonal editions, and seeks damages, restitution, injunctive relief, and disgorgement of profits. If successful, it could set a national precedent and force Coca-Cola to overhaul its labeling and ingredient transparency.

The company has yet to respond publicly, but the pressure is mounting. As consumer awareness grows, so does the demand to hold global brands accountable for deceptive marketing tactics.
