The Pakistan Army has completed a 66-km Astore-Skardu road in Gilgit-Baltistan, linking Shagma in Astore with Manthokha in Skardu through rugged mountain terrain.
According to Radio Pakistan, the new route cuts travel time between Astore and Skardu to a few hours. Eight villages in the Phoota Khas Valley of Gultari now have direct access to their district headquarters.
What the Astore-Skardu Road Changes
Officials say the road is expected to boost local trade, agriculture and livestock transport, and to improve access to markets and essential services for residents. Local people praised the project, saying it will ease travel and support economic activity in the area.
The road is presented as part of wider efforts to improve connectivity and development in the mountainous region, where harsh terrain has long made travel slow and difficult.
