Bitcoin slips below $84,000 on Wednesday as oil prices climb on attacks on tankers in the Strait of Hormuz, according to CoinDesk.
The largest cryptocurrency dropped about 1.5% to around $84,200 after briefly touching $83,840. Ether fell 3.5% to about $2,610, XRP slipped nearly 3% to $1.46, Dogecoin lost 5% to about 9 cents and Hyperliquid’s HYPE token declined about 4% to around $91.
Brent crude rose about 1% to roughly $101.50 a barrel. The US dollar strengthened against all G-10 currencies, and the 10-year Treasury yield climbed 3 basis points to 5.31%. US stocks closed at record highs on Tuesday, but stock futures reversed earlier gains.
Analysts at FxPro described $84,000 as a “victory for the bears” level and said a sustained break below $83,000 could open a quick path to $80,000. Dan Khus of LVRG Research said weaker jobs data had made further interest-rate increases less likely.
