German Ambassador Ina Lepel has urged Pakistan to turn its GSP Plus reforms into effective implementation and measurable results, according to Business Recorder.
She made the remarks during a meeting with Commerce Minister Jam Kamal Khan, where she acknowledged Pakistan’s legislative progress and positive developments in areas relevant to the scheme.
Kamal Khan appreciated Germany’s economic cooperation and reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to meeting its international obligations.
The prime minister’s coordinator on commerce also raised Pakistan’s dispute over the Geographical Indication status of Basmati rice, stressing the need to protect Pakistani producers against India’s competing application.
Both sides identified agriculture, food processing, technology, manufacturing, renewable energy and livestock as areas for cooperation. Pakistan also invited German participation in the FoodAg exhibition in Karachi in November 2026.
