In a scathing indictment of corporate misconduct, the Provincial Ombudsman of Sindh has ordered the immediate dismissal of K-Electric CEO Monis Alvi, declaring him guilty of harassing the company’s former Chief Marketing Officer, Mahreen Zahra. This bombshell ruling comes with a hefty Rs. 2.5 million penalty and a stark warning of further legal repercussions should Alvi fail to comply.

Justice (R) Shah Nawaz Tariq, who delivered the damning verdict, minced no words, stating that the harassment complaint was unequivocally proven, and Alvi’s actions inflicted severe psychological distress on the complainant. The Ombudsman’s order is relentless: if the fine isn’t paid within a month, Alvi faces the seizure of all his movable and immovable assets, alongside the blocking of his national identity card and passport.
Zahra, who served as a consultant for K-Electric in 2019, initially filed the complaint. The Ombudsman highlighted Alvi’s egregious failure to maintain a respectful professional environment, despite his position of immense power.
In a seemingly defiant statement on social media platform X (formerly Twitter), Alvi expressed “disappointment,” claiming the decision “does not reflect his experience or intentions.” He described the verdict as “personally painful” and vowed to challenge it through legal channels, thanking his supporters while bizarrely reiterating a commitment to “professional values and workplace dignity.”
This dramatic turn of events comes just weeks after K-Electric’s Board of Directors, inexplicably, reappointed Alvi as CEO, effective July 30, 2025. Alvi has held various senior roles at the company since 2008, including Chief Financial Officer and Company Secretary. Now, his career at K-Electric appears to have ended not with a whimper, but with a bang of judicial condemnation.
