Corporate Philanthropy in Pakistan Ascends to PKR 25.44 Billion in 2024

The Pakistan Centre for Philanthropy (PCP)’s latest Corporate Philanthropy Report reveals that the business sector contributed an exceptional PKR 25.44 billion for various social causes in the year 2023. To recognize and celebrate this landmark growth, PCP hosted the Corporate Philanthropy Awards 2025 on 19th November at Serena Hotel, Islamabad. The Federal Minister for Finance & Revenue, Mr. Muhammad Aurangzeb, graced the event as the Chief Guest. In his address, the Minister applauded the progressive role of corporate leaders in advancing the country’s socio-economic development, especially amid volatile economic environment and tight economic growth scenario.

The event was attended by prominent individuals including Mr. Zaffar A. Khan (S.I.), Chairman PCP Board of Directors; Dr. Nafisa Shah, MNA and Chairperson of the Parliamentary Special Committee on Gender Mainstreaming; Dr. Attiya Inayatullah, Chairperson PCP Research Committee; Ms. Shazia Maqsood Amjad, Executive Director PCP; and senior representatives of top corporations, civil society organizations, and the academia.

While sharing the report’s highlights, PCP’s Executive Director expressed that:

  • Public Listed Companies (PLCs) had the largest share of donations amounting to PKR 18.23 billion;
  • Public Unlisted Companies (PUCs) contributed PKR 3.28 billion; and
  • Private Limited Companies (PvLCs) donated PKR 3.93 billion in the year 2023

She further shared that KSE-100 companies donated PKR 15.24 billion, while KSE-30 companies contributed PKR 8.80 billion, setting a benchmark for charitable giving and aligning with national development goals. Among these companies, the group of Glass and Ceramics contributed the highest share of 7.80% of their total profits.

Awards were presented to 18 leading companies recognized for their high-ranked volume of donations and high ratio of giving relative to their Profit Before Tax (PBT). The companies who received the awards included Oil & Gas Development Company, Mari Energies Ltd, Bank Alfalah Ltd, Yunus Textile Mills Ltd, Novatex Ltd, Fast Cables Ltd, Barrett Hodgson Pakistan (Pvt.) Ltd, U.S. Denim Mills (Pvt.) Ltd, KSB Pumps Ltd, Unity Foods Ltd, The Searle Company Ltd, Y.B. Pakistan Ltd, Ghani Ceramics Ltd, among others.

The event also featured a thought-provoking panel discussion titled “Philanthropy Ecosystem in Pakistan: Opportunities and Challenges”, to improve and deepen the understanding of giving landscape in Pakistan. Mr. Badaruddin F. Vellani, Vice Chairman PCP Board, chaired the session and the panelists included eminent citizens like Ms. Mehnaz Akbar Aziz, Mr. Ahmer Bilal Soofi, Mr. Asif Rasool, Dr. Faisal Sultan, and Mr. Zia Akhter Abbas, who critically analyzed the regulatory and taxation related issues and opportunities for Pakistan’s giving ecosystem. The discussion enriched the audience to learn about the key challenges and policy gaps, and guided them about PCP’s continued engagement with regulators, policymakers, and philanthropy networks.

In his concluding remarks, Mr. Zaffar A. Khan reaffirmed the crucial role of corporate philanthropy in complementing government and civil society efforts. He emphasized that the latest survey once again showcases the business sector’s longstanding commitment to social development.

PCP’s Corporate Philanthropy Survey, with its 20th edition, remains a key national reference for documenting, recognizing, and promoting the contributions of Pakistan’s corporate sector to social progress.
