What to Expect at World Culture Festival Karachi
According to the Arts Council, the programme includes art exhibitions, mega concerts, theatre, music and dance performances. Highlights announced so far include:
- Internationally known pianists
- Spanish flamenco performers, with five groups from Spain
- Artists from the British Royal Ballet
- Around 70 performers from two Russian dance groups
- Tajikistan’s presidential orchestra
- Artists from Germany, the Netherlands and several African countries
- A performance of Layla Majnun by artists of Iranian origin on October 31
Pakistani and foreign artists will also stage joint performances, giving Arts Council students the chance to work alongside performers from around the world. Organisers said 80 to 85 percent of this year’s participants are new faces, including dancers, musicians, theatre artists, filmmakers, directors, painters and sculptors, and efforts are being made to include artists with special needs.
How to Attend: Free Entry and Registration
The Arts Council said 97 to 98 percent of festival activities will be free. Attendance requires online registration, and registration may close for an event once the venue is full. Organisers said extra arrangements are being made because of growing public interest, so visitors should register early for popular concerts and shows.
A Message of Peace Through Culture
Muhammad Ahmed Shah said the festival is not about setting records but about sending a message of peace, equality, love and cultural harmony to the world. He said the first two editions helped place Pakistan more firmly on the global cultural map, and that financial help has been arranged for international artists with limited resources.
Minister Syed Zulfiqar Ali Shah welcomed the foreign artists and called for visa restrictions on artists to be eased worldwide. He said visiting performers will tour Karachi’s historic landmarks, cultural sites and coastline and try local food, which he said helps improve Pakistan’s image abroad.
At the end of the press conference, the Arts Council signed cultural exchange agreements with Ecuador and Mexico, under which artists from each side can perform and teach in the other country. Similar agreements have already been signed with the United Kingdom, France and Latin America.
