Pakistan is providing fuel subsidies to more than 9 million low-income people as prices climb during the Middle East war, Petroleum Minister Ali Pervaiz Malik said, according to Arab News.
Motorcycle and three-wheeler users receive Rs500 a week, capped at Rs2,000 a month. Owners of cars up to 800cc receive Rs100 per litre on up to 10 litres every 10 days, capped at Rs3,000 a month.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif approved the scheme last month. Fuel prices have risen by more than 50 percent since the US-Iran war began earlier this year, and the programme followed pressure from the Jamaat-e-Islami, which had threatened protests.
The aid targets motorcycle riders, rickshaw operators and small car owners.
