Pakistan’s early exit from the Champions Trophy 2025 has not only disappointed fans but also exposed deep-seated tensions within the team. Reports indicate a rift between captain Mohammad Rizwan and head coach Aqib Javed over selection decisions, which significantly impacted the team’s performance.

Sources reveal that Rizwan advocated for Khushdil Shah’s inclusion, while Javed pushed for Faheem Ashraf, allegedly without consulting the captain. This disagreement led to a lack of cohesion within the squad, further hampering Pakistan’s campaign.

Adding to the turmoil, PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi’s recommendation to reassess the squad twice before finalizing selections was ignored, intensifying internal discord. Naqvi ultimately refrained from intervening further, allowing tensions to persist.

In the aftermath of Pakistan’s disappointing run, the PCB has announced a comprehensive review to assess the team’s shortcomings and strategize improvements.

Aqib Javed, who was appointed as head coach on a temporary basis, has confirmed that while he does not plan to resign, he will step aside as the board implements necessary changes.

With public backlash mounting, the selection committee is also expected to come under scrutiny, and the PCB faces increasing pressure to make bold decisions ahead of future tournaments.
