Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has launched the PM Chromebook Scheme 2026, under which 500,000 Chromebooks will be given to top-performing students of government schools across Pakistan. The scheme was inaugurated at a ceremony at the Convention Centre in Islamabad on October 25, 2026.
The programme is being run by the Ministry of Federal Education and Professional Training together with the Prime Minister’s Youth Programme, in coordination with the provinces. Students are selected on merit from their board results, which are verified through the Inter Boards Coordination Commission (IBCC).
Who Is Eligible for the PM Chromebook Scheme 2026
- Punjab, Sindh, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan: high-achieving Grade 9 (SSC-I) students.
- Islamabad, Azad Jammu and Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan: high-achieving Grade 9 and Grade 10 (SSC-I and SSC-II) students.
- The scheme is meant for students of public sector schools, with a separate share for registered madrasas.
- Students are ranked within their own province, education board and study group until the quota is filled, so passing a minimum mark alone does not guarantee a device.
Province-Wise Quota
| Region | Chromebooks |
|---|---|
| Punjab | 181,090 |
| Islamabad Capital Territory | 100,000 |
| Sindh | 85,925 |
| Khyber Pakhtunkhwa | 51,170 |
| Balochistan | 31,815 |
| Azad Jammu and Kashmir | 25,000 |
| Gilgit-Baltistan | 25,000 |
| Total | 500,000 |
Within each region’s share, 80 percent of the devices are set aside for school students and 20 percent for madrasa students. School devices are further split 70 percent for the science group and 30 percent for the arts group.
How to Apply for the PM Chromebook Scheme 2026
Registration is done online through the official IBCC portal at pmychromebooks.ibcc.edu.pk. Students need their B-Form or CNIC number and their roll or registration number, and should keep these scanned documents ready:
- A recent colour photograph with a plain background
- SSC-I or SSC-II mark sheet
- Attested copy of the student’s B-Form or CNIC
- Attested copy of the father’s or guardian’s CNIC
Each scanned file should be under 300 KB. Deadlines differ from board to board, so students should follow the schedule announced by their own education board and check the portal for updates.
What the PM Chromebook Scheme 2026 Means for Students
For many families in smaller towns, a personal computer is still out of reach, and students often depend on a shared phone for online classes and research. A Chromebook in Grade 9 gives these students regular access to digital learning material, online assessments and basic computer skills two years before they reach college.
The earlier Prime Minister’s Laptop Scheme focused on university students. Moving the support down to the school level means devices will reach students at a stage when study habits and subject choices are still being formed.
Officials have also warned students and parents to apply only through the official portal and to ignore unofficial websites or agents asking for money to register them for the PM Chromebook Scheme 2026.
