Pakistan plans to set up about 3,000 public EV charging stations nationwide by 2030, the Ministry of Industries and Production has said in a written reply to the National Assembly.
EV Charging Stations Rollout Under NEV Policy
Under the New Energy Vehicle (NEV) Policy 2025-30, the first phase will install 40 fast-charging stations along motorways and selected sections of the N-5 National Highway, with charging points planned roughly every 50 kilometres on major highways. Fuel stations will be encouraged to add EV chargers, and fast, Level 2 and Level 1 facilities will expand, along with battery-swapping stations for electric two- and three-wheelers.
To attract private investors, the government offers a dedicated commercial electricity tariff, faster connections and public-private partnerships, including viability gap funding. In 2025, 3,800 investors showed interest in setting up charging stations.
The policy also covers the collection, reuse, dismantling and recycling of end-of-life EV batteries, particularly lithium-ion. The ministry says a regulatory framework and a nationwide recycling network are being developed.
