Canada has become the latest team to secure qualification for the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026, set to be co-hosted by India and Sri Lanka. The Maple Leaf side completed an unbeaten run in the Americas Regional Final, winning all five of their matches to finish atop the standings with a perfect ten points and a tournament-best net run rate of +5.684.

The Regional Final took place from June 15 to 22 at the Maple Leaf Cricket Club in Toronto, featuring Canada, Bermuda, the Cayman Islands, and the Bahamas. Canada opened their campaign with a convincing victory over Bermuda, then went on to defeat the Cayman Islands and the Bahamas in their opening three fixtures. A mid-tournament rest day on June 17 allowed the hosts to regroup before crushing Bermuda and Bahamas once more in the concluding rounds, confirming their dominance in front of enthusiastic home crowds.

Canada’s flawless performance in the double round-robin format underlined their status as favourites to claim the sole Americas berth. Led by captain Aaron Johnson—who guided his side with tactical acumen and timely big-hitting—the team showcased depth in both batting and bowling. Key contributions came from young all-rounder Rizwan Cheema, who produced rapid middle-order runs, and pacer Kyle Kellner, whose disciplined spells yielded crucial early breakthroughs. Their collective efforts ensured Canada outscored opponents by wide margins, sealing qualification with one match to spare.

With their place booked, Canada now joins hosts India and Sri Lanka on the 20-team roster for the T20 World Cup, joining seven automatic qualifiers from the 2024 Super 8 stage and additional regional qualifiers from Africa, Asia, Europe, and the East Asia-Pacific. Canada’s focus will now shift to preparations for the global showpiece, where they will aim to advance beyond the group stage for the first time in their T20 World Cup history.
