Gunmen stole Rs10 million from a bank cash van near the DPO office, killing one security guard and injuring another. According to the police, the guards were transferring cash from the National Bank on Old Kutchery Road to a van parked at the bank’s main gate. Meanwhile, the gunmen in masks rob the guards of bank’s money. On resistance, the gunmen opened fire on guards Muhammad Shahbaz and Mahmood Ahmed, injuring them, and later fleeing on a motorcycle with Rs10 million.
Police officers and other bank guards were unharmed, but they did not assist the two guards. Locals transported the injured guards in a motorcycle-rickshaw to the Narowal District Headquarters Hospital, where Shehbaz was pronounced dead and Mahmood was being treated for life-threatening injuries. According to Umar, the district police officer’s office is 20 yards from the bank, and dozens of police officers were present at the time of the incident. Several police vehicles were also present, but no assistance was provided by the office.
Another member of the public, Bilal, stated that the Rescue 1122 did not respond to the call, but District Emergency Officer Naeem Akhtar stated that the rescue team transferred Mahmood to the DHQ Hospital, while Shehbaz died on the scene. A video clip making the rounds on social media shows the two guards being loaded onto a rickshaw. Dr Faraz Noor, Medical Superintendent at DHQ Hospital, stated that Mahmood’s condition was critical. He stated that the patient had multiple shots and was on a ventilator. According to Deputy Superintendent of Police Muhammad Khalid, the police are conducting raids to apprehend the suspects. He stated that no FIR had been filed.
