Rain with Snowfall to Lash Upper Parts of Pakistan

Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) on Tuesday predicted rain with snowfall over the hills in upper areas of the country that would subside fog and benefit the standing crops.

After a long dry spell, the meteorological department said that a westerly wave has entered northwestern parts of Balochistan and is expected to hit the central and upper parts of the country on 28 December (night) till 29 December.

This weather system is expected to lash rain with snowfall over the hills in Zhob, Qillah Saifullah, Quetta, Qillah Abdullah, Turbat, Barkhan, Harani, Chaman, Nokkundi, Ziarat, Panjgur, Dalbandin, Jiwani, Pishin, Naseerabad, Sibi, Khuzdar, Gwadar, Lasbela and Kalat from 27 December (night) till 29 December.

The system is also expected to bring light to moderate rain with snowfall over the hills of Gilgit Baltistan, Kashmir, Chitral, Swat, Dir, Malakand, Abbottabad, Mansehra, Haripur, Peshawar, Bajaur, Charsadda, Mardan, Kurram, Kohistan, Galiyat, Kohat, Waziristan, Murree, Sargodha, Potohar region and Islamabad on December 28 and 29.

Light rain is also likely in Larkana, Sukkur, Jacobabad, Sialkot, Dera Ghazi Khan, Lahore, Multan, Rajanpur, Sheikhupura, Faisalabad, Gujranwala, Bhakkar, Rahimyar Khan and Bahawalpur during the period. Snowfall may disrupt normal traffic in hilly areas. Day temperatures are expected to fall by 5-7 degrees Celsius during the rain spell.
